Care & FAQ

Washing - Inspect and wash before and after each use. Wash with mild soap and water or a toy cleaning agent. To sanitize you can boil in water for a few minutes, or use a dishwasher. Do not use harsh chemicals.

Storage - To extend the life of your toy, do not use silicone lubes. Store in a dry location, not touching non-silicone toys. Keep away from pets and chemicals.

Safety - Fantasy sex toys are novelty items and should not be used in an unsafe manner. To avoid injury during use, the user should understand their limits and start slow with new toys, and we encourage the use of water or oil based lubricants.

FAQ

Q: What are fantasy adult toys?

A: Fantasy adult toys are just that - adult toys (like dildos, buttplugs, gags, c-rings, kegel eggs, and more) with a fantasy or sci-fi theme! Have you ever wondered what a night of passion with a werewolf would be like? Imagined yourself as an alien, with equally alien genitalia? Fantasy toys are made to bring those fantasies and more to life in shimmering silicone. Whichever sentient creature you desire to spend a night of passion with, there is a toy for you!

Q: Are your toys body safe?

A: "Body Safe" is a term commonly used to refer to materials that are generally considered to be safe for use on skin or mucous membranes. At Darker Horse we prefer to use the language used by our material distributors: We use certified 'Skin Safe' platinum cure silicone, which means it was developed for contact with humans and has to meet a higher standard of testing and quality control. Food Safe certified silicone is utilized in toys intended for oral or external contact only. Our pigments are all cosmetic approved or non-toxic, and we do extensive research and testing into the pigments we choose to stock in our shop.

Body safety is about more than ingredients, though. We also do research and testing into methods to ensure that our toys are well crafted to minimize risk of surface bubbles, delamination, tearing, or harm to users. We triple inspect our toys for flaws and put them through a wash-and-boil before shipping to clean and sanitize, and always handle our toys with gloves.

Q: How are the toys made?

A: Our silicone toys are hand-crafted with 100% skin-safe silicone and pigmented with non-toxic micas, powders, and liquid silicone pigments that remain fully encapsulated within the silicone during use. We start with a hand-sculpted or 3D printed master model and create silicone molds from the same skin-safe silicone we make our toys with. Then we pigment and hand-cast silicone in our proprietary shapes, trim them, wash them, and package them in tamper evident packaging for sale.

Q: What does Near Clear mean?

A: Near Clear is a highly transparent variety of platinum grade, skin-safe silicone that we make some of our toys out of. It allows a transparent or crystalline effect when pigmented correctly, but requires some special attention during creation. Near Clear silicone is more expensive and difficult to work with, so these toys require a small upcharge.

Because of its clarity, Near Clear is more likely to show yellowing over time, which is a risk to all platinum cure silicone eventually. You can help keep your toy looking new by avoiding prolonged boiling (hand-washing alone should adequately clean a toy) and avoiding leaving the toy in direct sunlight.

In addition, Near Clear has a tendency to acquire temporary nicks or dents from storage or fingernails, and we suggest handling and storing with this in mind.

Q: What is a Flop?

A flop is a toy that has a minor flaw that has been deemed safe for use, and is sold at a discount. It might require some extra care when cleaning or storing, which will be noted in the individual listing. Examples include large bubbles that can be easily cleaned or are on non-use areas, fully-encapsulated pigment freckles, or problem areas that were trimmed to a safe state.

A failure is a toy that has issues too major to be used safely. We will not sell toys that we consider to be failures. Examples include major delamination, unsafe bubbles, exposed pigment clumps, or uncured silicone.

A feature is any detail that is inherent to that toy, and doesn't affect cleaning or use. A feature cannot be excluded from a toy. Our masters, molds, and toys are handmade by a single artist, and silicone is a tricky medium. Models will have details and minor flaws inherent to any handmade craft. Pigments may create unexpected results based on pigment type, firmness, lighting, and your monitor.

We inspect our toys thoroughly before shipping but we are human. If a safety flaw is discovered with your toy before removing the tamper evident seal, Darker Horse Toys will flop the toy post-sale and discount you the price of the flop. If the flaw would make the toy unusable we will refund your purchase or replace the toy.

Q: What should I do if there is an issue with my order?

A: If you notice an issue with your order before unbagging your toy, reach out to us at DarkerHorseDesigns@gmail.com and we will help to amend it.
